JOB TITLE:  Child and Youth Worker

 

NOYFSS is looking to hire casual/relief Child and Youth Workers for our Specialized Homes and Support Services Programs. Successful applicants would be working directly with children between the ages of 6 and 16. The children in our care come from a variety of backgrounds. NOYFSS implements a family-focused, strength-based, attachment-focused and trauma-informed approach in all aspects of planning for the children in our care.

JOB SUMMARY:  Required to work independently and as part of a team, often in stressful conditions with clients who have experienced extreme trauma and a variety of other mental health issues/concerns.  The successful candidate must have strong written and verbal communication and problem solving skills. In addition, they must be able to support residents in achieving the overall goals of their service plans through the provision of life skills and recreation programming of residents.  This position requires one to work effectively in the conditions of a specialized home environment, which may include: handling aggressive clients, body fluids and/or other undesirable situations.

WAGE:  As per Union Contract – Grid level 11 – $23.10 to $26.91 per hour. This position requires Union membership

LOCATION:  Mara House and/or Sage House

HOURS OF WORK/SHIFT:  Rotational shift work – includes days, evenings and weekends – averaging 35 to 40 hours per week

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Education and Knowledge: 2-year Human/Social Service Diploma and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 2 years recent related experience
  • First Aid with CPR (within 30 days of hire)
  • WHMIS (within 30 days of hire)
  • TB Skin Test (within 30 days of hire)
  • Food Safe Certification (within 30 days of hire)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Consolidated Ministry of Children and Family Development Prior contact check (in-house)
  • Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check (in-house)
  • Successful completion of Mandt certification (in-house)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in de-escalation methods (Mandt)
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License  (with no restrictions)
  • Suitable Driver’s Abstract
  • Immunizations are required for this position

JOB TITLE:  Awake Night Worker

 

NOYFSS is looking to hire both permanent part-time, as well as casual/relief Awake Night Workers for our Specialized Homes and Support Services Programs. NOYFSS implements a family-focused, strength-based, attachment-focused and trauma-informed approach in all aspects of planning for the children in our care.

JOB SUMMARY:  The Awake Night Worker will monitor and attend to the well being and safety of children (age 6-16) residing in our care. Many of these children may have experienced extreme trauma and/or display a variety of behaviors which may include aggression. Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to do housekeeping, laundry, sanitization and food preparation as required.

WAGE:  $19.66 to 22.90 per hour. As per Union Contract – Grid level 6. This position requires Union membership

LOCATION:  Sage House and/or Mara House

HOURS OF WORK/SHIFT:

  • Part-time position: Fridays and Saturdays, 11pm to 7am
  • Casual shifts which are also 11pm to 7am, all days of the week

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum requirement of Grade 12 and/or 6 months of recent child related experience
  • First Aid with CPR (within 30 days of hire)
  • WHMIS (within 30 days of hire)
  • TB Skin Test (upon hire)
  • Food Safe Certification (within 30 days of hire)
