Awake Night Worker

NOYFSS is a registered non-profit agency that provides a variety of programs to the community of Vernon and surrounding area. We are the leading community social agency that aspires to strengthen the family through healthy relationships.  LOCATION: Vernon, BC START DATE:  ASAP JOB SUMMARY:  The Awake Night Worker works in NOYFSS’s Specialized Homes and Support Services program. The worker will monitor and attend to the well- being and safety of children (age 6-16) residing in our care. Many of these children may have experienced extreme trauma and/or display a variety of behaviors which may include aggression. Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to do housekeeping, laundry, sanitization and some food preparation as required. WAGE:  $19.66 per hour. This position requires Union membership HOURS OF WORK/SHIFT:  Casual / Call-in to provide coverage for staff on vacation or away due to illness / leave of absence. Can be any day of the week from 11pm to 7am. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum requirement of Grade 12 and/or 6 months of recent child related experience
  • Must be at least 19 years of age

Within 30 days of hire, you will be expected to complete:

  • First Aid with CPR
  • WHMIS
  • TB Skin Test
  • Food Safe Certification

Child and Youth Worker

 LOCATION: Vernon, BC

START DATE:  ASAP

WAGE:  $23.10 per hour. This position requires Union membership

HOURS OF WORK/SHIFT:  Rotational shift work – includes days, evenings and weekends – averaging 35 to 40 hours per week

OB SUMMARY:  Required to work independently and as part of a team, often in stressful conditions with clients who have experienced extreme trauma and a variety of other mental health issues/concerns.  The successful candidate must have strong written and verbal communication and problem solving skills. In addition, they must be able to support residents in achieving the overall goals of their service plans through the provision of life skills and recreation programming of residents.  This position requires one to work effectively in the conditions of a specialized home environment, which may include: handling aggressive clients, body fluids and/or other undesirable situations.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Education and Knowledge: 2-year Human/Social Service Diploma and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 2 years recent related experience
